This silver dirham, minted during the early Islamic period between 632 and 702 A.D., represents the fascinating fusion of Arab and Sassanian cultures following the Islamic conquest of Persia. Issued under the authority of Abu Said al-Muhallab ibn Abi Sufra, a prominent military leader and governor, this coin is a valuable artifact from a pivotal time in Islamic history.

The obverse of the coin features the classic Sassanian design, with the portrait of a ruler adorned with a winged crown, surrounded by Pahlavi script, which reflects the continuation of Persian artistic traditions under Islamic rule. The reverse side displays the fire altar with attendants, a symbol of Zoroastrian religious practices, encircled by inscriptions.
