This is a masterful oil on canvas portrait of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, one of Persia’s most iconic monarchs, rendered by the renowned artist Mirza Jafar, a distinguished student of the Dar ul-Fonoon art school in the 19th century. Jafar was a highly respected painter in the court, known for his distinctive style, combining detailed brushwork with vivid colours, and skilled use of shading.
The portrait captures the Shah in regal attire, adorned with the characteristic Qajar crown and jewel-laden accessories, highlighting his majestic presence. This artwork stands as a testament to Jafar’s ability to bring out the subtle nuances in his subject’s expression and stature.
