Lot 237: A CARVED INDIAN WOODEN ARCHITECTURAL PANEL, 18TH CENTURY

A finely carved hardwood architectural fragment, likely once part of a larger interior or façade element, featuring richly detailed relief decoration characteristic of 18th-century Indian craftsmanship. The front displays dynamic floral and foliate motifs, scrolling elements, and symmetrical compositions carved in deep relief, all framed within stepped architectural mouldings. Traces of old pigment and surface patination attest to its age and historical use. The reverse shows the original structural form and aged wood surface, indicating its former placement within a traditional architectural setting. This evocative piece showcases the skill and ornate aesthetic of Indian woodcarving from the period and serves as a striking decorative element or collector’s artifact.
