An exceptionally fine and rare Ottoman gilt-copper (tombak) openwork dish, dating from the 17th–18th century, possibly of Greek provincial workmanship. The dish is elaborately pierced and repoussé-decorated with intricate arabesque and zoomorphic motifs, centeringon a raised medallion with stylised floral patterns enclosed by a series of concentric openwork borders.
The richly gilded surface displays alternating patterns of lattice and foliate scrolls, interspersed with mythical animals and birds rendered in fluid Ottoman baroque style. The reverse retains traces of original gilding, enhancing the warm tone of the copper body beneath. Such finely worked tombak pieces were highly prized luxury objects within the Ottoman court and among affluent Greek artisans of the empire, serving both as ceremonial display items and symbols of prestige.
